Losing Weight Safely?

February 7th, 2010 by Leave a reply »

I’ve had a hard time with food for a while, I used to eat very little at some point and I’ve also had troubles with binge-eating.
I’m 130-140 lbs at 5′7″ right now, and I’m almost 17. I’m not saying I’m fat or anything, but I’d really like to lose a few pounds because I don’t feel comfortable with my weight (especially since it’s nearly all in my thighs!) I’m a total carb addict so I have nearly 10 lbs of water weight which comes off in a few days if I stop eating them.. however I can’t find a way to lower the amount since the only carbs I consume come from bread. I’m part-vegetarian (pesce-pollo) so my parents have pretty much given up on trying to prepare meals for me, so I turn to bread.
Are there any easy to make, vegetarian safe (I do eat fish and chicken) meals that you all can suggest? Also is it enough if, for exercise, I do stretches every day and crunches/squats/lunges every other day? I have 1 1/2 hrs of gym at school each week too. Are there any other tips to lose weight?

Well, I tell you Luna that it is refreshing to here you are concerned about eating correctly. The exercises you are doing seem ample. Let me suggest your looking at http://www.foodpyramid.gov to get a suggested plan for eating and, also, I would like to see you pick up a book or two on nutrition. A couple of good ones to choose from are The Everything Nutrition Book and The Complete Idiots Guide to Total Nutrition. Keep up the good work.
Just as an aside women store their fat in the hips. It’s nature’s cruel joke for women.

Fruit smoothies, real ones that you make yourself are amazing, like a dessert. raw pizza ( sold at whole foods) and lots of raw foods, really good, foods that have not been processed or cooked above a certain temp. Carol Alt has a great book, called the raw food diet, brillant, and it works, it’s truly amazing. look it up on web, then if interested, buy it, you will not regret it.

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the daily calorie needs calculator http://calorieneedscalculator.com This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.
